The Catalina Foothills is a census-designated place on the north side of Tucson, Arizona. Locals usually just call it “the Foothills.”

Generally speaking, many Tucsonans think of the Foothills as the area north of River Road, east of Oracle Road, and west of Sabino Creek. To the north, the community borders the Santa Catalina Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest.

As a Tucson real estate professional, one of my favorite things about the Catalina Foothills is the architecture.

One of the best parts of living in the Catalina Foothills is being so close to outdoor recreation.

Sabino Canyon is one of Tucson’s most beloved natural attractions. Whether you want to hike, take the tram, enjoy the scenery, or simply be surrounded by desert beauty, Sabino Canyon is a must-see.

Ventana Canyon is another beautiful hiking destination with incredible views of the Catalina Mountains. It offers a mix of easier and more challenging trails, making it a favorite for both casual walkers and experienced hikers.

Art, Culture, and Local Landmarks

The Catalina Foothills also has a strong connection to Tucson’s art and culture.

DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is a historic 10-acre property built by artist Ted DeGrazia in the 1950s. It includes an art gallery, museum, and beautiful desert setting, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Madaras Gallery, featuring the work of local Tucson artist Diana Madaras, is another local favorite.
